Since last Friday, the Bulls got blown out by the Philadelphia 76ers at home, and they beat the
Milwaukee and the Cleveland Cavaliers in easy wins. It would be an understatement to say there has been a huge change over the last week. The biggest change from the loss to the 76ers to the victory over the Bucks was the performance of Nikola Mirotic and All-Star Jimmy Butler.
Butler did not look like an All-Star against Philadelphia as he only scored seven points. He did have 11 assists, which is good for him, but is not good enough to carry the Bulls to a win. However, it was clear that Butler was just having a bad game as he came back on Sunday to score 20 points and get 14 assists against Milwaukee. He also scored 25 points against Cleveland, which was definitely an improvement. He needs to continue to be consistent for the rest of the season, in order for the Bulls to build up a winning streak.
Another factor that will determine whether or not the Bulls can win games and make the playoffs will be the consistency of Mirotic. In the devastating loss to the 76ers, he scored 15 points, which is good for him, but he could have done more to carry the team to a win. Also, he has been inconsistent throughout the entire season, so it was very unlikely for him to have another game like that. However, he surprised everyone by scoring 28 points against both Milwaukee and Cleveland. He has never had three great games in a row this season. He is playing at a high level currently, just like he was during his rookie season. One of his motives for playing at a high level may be to get a big contract from the Bulls during this off season. He will be will be restricted free agent this off season, so he may be playing like an All-Star so he can get a huge contract. It does not really matter what his motivation is, as long as he continues to play like this throughout the rest of the season.
The Bulls have seven games left in the season and if they want to make the playoffs, they are going to have to win most of them. After the Bucks game, the Bulls had several days off before their game against the Cavaliers. The Cavs games game marked the beginning of their playoff run. The Bulls were losing at halftime, but managed to cut Cleveland's lead and gain a lead of their own for a 99-93 victory at home. Along with Butler and Mirotic' s contributions, big man Robin Lopez scored 10 points, and Denzel Valentine scored 12. Rajon Rondo finished the night with 15 assists. and although he may not be the best scorer, he can make incredible passes and rack up assists.
The Bulls have a relatively easy schedule for the remainder of the regular season and that is both good and bad. It is good because they can easily beat these teams and build up a winning streak to knock the Indiana Pacers out of the eighth spot in the Eastern Conference. However, the Bulls have lost to awful teams and beat great teams, throughout the season, which is very strange. The Bulls need to change their tune and put in the effort to sweep these teams. They are ninth in the East and only one game behind both the Miami Heat and the Pacers. If Mirotic continues to put up great numbers each game and Butler remains consistent, the Bulls could grab the seventh or eighth spot in the east and make it to the postseason. We'll just have to wait and see if they can end their season on a high note.

Bulls Update - 3/24/17
The Bulls are coming back. They are ninth in the eastern conference on the cusp of snatching a playoff spot from the Miami Heat. They can definitely push through the rest of their games and make the playoffs, but the question is if they actually will.
The Bulls' young bench players have been having big games respectively where they scored a lot of points and played solid defense, but the problem is that they cannot become consistent. Rookie, Denzel Valentine has been the most consistent bench player. He has been scoring at least ten points games every game. Even though he has had consistent scoring, his shooting percentage is awful. Recently, he has had a shooting percentage of 30%. He is supposed to be a great three point shooter, so this is slightly concerning. However, he is a rookie and barely played the first half of the season, so he will most likely continue to develop and improve as the season goes on.
Other Bulls bench players who have played exceptionally recently are Bobby Portis, Nikola Mirotic, and Joffrey Lauvergne. They each have had a couple big games lately, but none of them have been consistent every single game. If they play well and generate a lot of offense every game and not just a select few, then the Bulls could generate a winning streak. However, if they don't put effort into some games they will not be able to win.
The Bulls won their last game against the Detroit Pistons, which is a crucial win this late in the season. Also, the Pistons were ahead of the Bulls in the standings prior to that game and now the Bulls are above them after their great victory. Jimmy Butler had a double-double on the game with 16 points and 12 rebounds, Paul Zipser had 15 points, Joffrey Lauvergne scored 17, Bobby Portis scored 12, but the player who really carried the team in that game was Nikola Mirotic. He scored 28 points and his field goal percentage was 80%, which is incredible for him. There are rumors that he will be traded over the off season since his three point shooting percentage has been awful this season and his offense has been progressively getting worse. After that outstanding performance in the Bulls' win, those rumors may disappear. If he continues to play like he did against the Pistons, then the Bulls may want to keep him as a crucial piece of their roster. It's a little surprising that they won, considering they were missing a great scorer as of late, Robin Lopez.
Lopez was handed a one-game suspension after he got into a fight with Toronto Raptors forward, Serge Ibaka. This is said to be one of the worst fights in the NBA, since it was not just a typical player scuffle. Lopez and Ibaka threw actual punches at each other and even though none of them connected, the intent was definitely there. Bulls Update- 3/17/17
So the Chicago Bulls had a big chance to get into the playoffs, until now. The Bulls were bouncing between the seventh and eighth spots in the conference until recently when they they've lost game after game, causing them to drop to the tenth spot in the eastern conference. Currently, they will not make the the playoffs. All they'd have to do is get a win streak going to reclaim their playoff spot and I figured they could do that. However, in the last few games the Bulls have been awful. The players don't have good chemistry, the majority of the team doesn't try and a scout reported that Rajon Rondo, Jimmy Butler and Dwyane Wade have been completely ignoring Coach Fred Hoiberg's plays. They're falling apart at the seams. It may be too late to try and make a playoff run considering how their coach has lost control of the team and their roster that was quickly scrapped together right before the season, just isn't working anymore.
Also, Butler is not playing at the all-star level he was earlier in the season. He carried the team, could score 40 points, hit buzzer beaters and make great plays. Towards the middle of the season, Butler injured his heel and ever since that injury, he hasn't been the same. Now he can barely score twenty points and his shooting percentage is horrible. The Bulls need him to be at his best if they want to their season to end on a high note. Many people are saying he may be injured but is not telling everyone or he didn't fully recover from his heel injury. Whatever it is, he needs to become the all-star Jimmy Butler from the beginning of the season again. He needs to step it up especially after what happened last game.
The Bulls lost their last game against the Memphis Grizzlies, but the game wasn't the only thing they lost. Wade went up for a rebound, got caught between a few guys and hyper-extended his elbow. Coach Hoiberg asked him if he needed to sit and Wade refused, still trying to play. After a little while, he had to sit after the pain became excruciating. According to an MRI, Wade both sprained and fractured his elbow and will be out for the remainder of the season. That's right, they lose him for the rest of the season. He provides them with great offense, scoring, and play making, so this will hurt the team a lot.The Bulls' chance to make the playoffs is very slim and will only increase if Butler carries the team. Also, their young bench players need to step up into their roles and give it their all ever game.
During the off season the Bulls need to make some major changes, but until then we'll see if they sink or swim. They have fourteen games left and that's just enough time to make a playoff run or tank. I really can't predict which one it'll be, so I'll just have to wait and see.
Tonight the Bulls are coming to DC to play the Washington Wizards and I'm going to the game. I'm disappointed I won't get to see Wade play, but at least I get to see Butler and the rest of the team. Despite all of the problems that Rondo has caused for the team I'm still excited to see him play. I just hope the Bulls won't get blown out because I only get to go to one Bulls game a season, and I hope it's not gonna be a loss. Whatever happens, I'll still love to see my favorite team.

Bulls Update- 3/13/17
I'm going to make this blog about both Chicago Bulls updates and NBA updates. So much has happened in the NBA in the last couple weeks so I feel like I need to cover that too. First I'll start with the Bulls.
The Bulls are currently on a downward spiral as they are now in the tenth spot in the eastern conference and have lost their last five games. Dwyane Wade has been out with a quad (thigh) injury and recently returned.
Having Wade out definitely hurt the team, since he provides the team with a lot of scoring each game, but that's not the only reason the Bulls cannot secure a winning streak. I've noticed that every game that they lose, they build up a lead in the first half, barely maintain it in the third quarter and completely blow it in the fourth quarter. This has happened countless times and unless their coach Fred Hoiberg finds a solution, the Bulls may not even make the playoffs.
Another problem they have is inconsistency. Many of the Bulls' young players are developing and improving this season, but they cannot play well and score at least ten points every game. The Bulls need their young bench players to improve and become consistent because in many of their losses, their bench barely contributed any points. Also, Jimmy Butler needs to find some consistency because after his heel injury he hasn't been putting up the same scoring numbers as before. He needs to lead the team at this very crucial point in the season, the playoff push.
They need to make some kind of change soon because the playoffs are quickly approaching and if the Bulls continue to be inconsistent, blow fourth quarter leads and have an awful three point shooting percentage they'll continue to slip in the conference. Currently, they aren't even in a playoff spot, so their season is not ending well.Personally, I think the Bulls should fire their front office (Gar Forman and John Paxson) who don't know how to build a solid roster around their start player, Butler or draft good players. They also should fire their coach Fred Hoiberg, who still can't find a consistent lineup to use and can't generate any offensive plays for the Bulls. The Bulls have a 31-35 record, so they need to build up a long wining streak if they want a chance of getting into the playoffs at all.
However, before their losing streak, the Bulls had one exceptional game recently against the depleted Golden State Warriors. This leads into some NBA news. Kevin Durant, Warriors small forward, suffered an MCL sprain (knee injury) the game before the Warriors faced the Bulls and his absence has left them in shambles. The Warriors have lost three games in a row, allowing the Spurs to become very close to the top spot in the western conference. However, one of the Spurs' star players, LaMarcus Aldridge is potentially out for the season with a heart condition, so that will definitely hurt them. It turns out the Bulls aren't the only team slipping towards the end of the season.

Bulls Update- 2/24/17
I'm just going to start with the big trade all Bulls fans are talking about right now. The NBA trade deadline was 3:00 p.m. on February 23 and the Bulls made their move about a half hour before then. Chicago traded veteran Taj Gibson ( starting power forward/center), Doug McDermott (back up small forward) and a 2018 second round pick to the Oklahoma City Thunder.
The most important question of any trade is who they got in return. The Bulls got Cameron Payne (point guard), Joffrey Lauvergne (center) and Anthony Morrow (shooting guard). The main focus of this trade for the Bulls is Cameron Payne. He was a top first round pick in 2015. He hasn't gotten many minutes on the Thunder playing behind All-Star point guard Russell Westbrook, but the Bulls believe they can develop him and he'll be their starting guard of the future. The two other guys were most likely put into the trade to balance out the salaries.
Before the trade, Bulls had four point guards who have had underwhelming performances this season to say the least. They are hoping that he can develop and take over the starting point guard role, since Michael-Carter Williams, Jerian Grant, Rajon Rondo and Isiah Canaan have not been consistent. The front office is attempting to build a roster for the future apparently.
Speaking of the Bulls' front office, many Bulls fan are outraged by the trade and want the front office. to be fired.
Gar Forman and John Paxson (also known as GarPax) have not been able to assemble a successful roster since the 2010-2011 season when the Bulls went to the Eastern Conference finals. They have decided to keep Jimmy Butler, but are unable to build a roster around him. Many fans are upset that they traded Gibson, the last player still on the team that was apart of the 2010-2011 season roster. They think that the players they got in return for Gibson and McDermott are garbage since they all average about five points a game currently.
Personally, I don't really care about Morrow and Lauvergne but I'm actually glad the Bulls got Payne. They clearly needed to adjust their roster since they have been in the middle of the Eastern Conference the entire season. They need a young, talented starting point guard and I think Payne could be that guy. He only averaged a few points per game last season and this season because he barely got any minutes as Westbrook's backup. He could a total bust, but we won't know until he steps out on the court. I think Bulls fans need to wait until Payne and the two players get on the floor before they get angry. Of course, I'm not excited that Taj Gibson who has been a dedicated, strong defensive for years, but he's 32 and will be a free agent this summer. They needed to get something in return for him.

Bulls Update- 2/19/17
It’s been a week since my last post and a lot has happened. The Bulls’ long western conference is finally over and they have a long stretch of home games, which is what they need. Their road trip didn’t go over too well, though. They were 2-4 on the road during their extended trip. Without Butler (heel contusion) and Wade (wrist injury and more recently a stomach virus) it was very hard for the Bulls to even win games. They were also without Mirotic and Zipser, which didn’t hurt them as much, but it helps to have more guys in their rotation. Some young players stepped up into their roles, while others had underwhelming performances. Doug McDermott, Michael Carter-Williams, and Bobby Portis have stepped up in the absence of some of their key players. However, each of these guys only had one or two stellar games in the last week, which isn’t great since consistency is what the Bulls desperately need.
The Bulls lost to many western conference teams on the road, but since they’ve returned to the United Center they’ve built up a mini winning streak. They beat the Toronto Raptors (who are a top eastern conference team), but they have beaten them every time they’ve played them for eleven games straight. It’s not clear whether it’s the matchups or the offense and defense against each other, but no matter what they always beat Toronto.
The game I really want to talk about is their game against the Celtics on February 16. The Bulls won 104-103. Butler returned so they were able to hang with for most of the game, even with Wade out. Many young players picked up the slack last night, especially Portis with 19 points. The most exciting part of the game was the last minute. The game was tied with about one minute left and after trading possessions, Butler had the last shot. Of course, he is their closer. He waited until the last second to toss up a shot, a step-back jumper (his signature shot now) and missed. I thought the game was over since the clock was at zero and the Celtics won. That was until a foul was called on Marcus Smart of the Celtics on Butler’s shot. Butler shot two free throws and hit both, leading the Bulls to a great win.
Jimmy Butler has proved once again why he will never be traded and why he is the reason the Bulls are in a playoff spot right now. Once again, there are more Butler trade rumors, but those are always circulating. I think that there is no way the Bulls will trade him since he is the new face of the franchise. The Bulls need to build their roster around him and recruit players that will play well with him. There are currently trade rumors regarding Jahil Okafor of the 76ers, but this trade most likely won’t happen, so I won’t go into it.
This excellent close to the game also proves that Butler is deserving of his starting spot in the 2017 All Star Game. The game is Sunday night (February 19) in New Orleans this year. I’m glad he’s being rewarded for pushing himself as hard as he can every night and for his stellar play and development. I’ll be back next week to give my analysis on the All Star Game, especially Butler’s performance. This game doesn’t count for anyone’s season record, but it’s always a fun, entertaining game to watch. The Bulls have the week off for the All Star break, which they desperately need. Hopefully they’ll come back strong from the break. I’ll give more updates next week.
Bulls Update- 2/10/17
A lot has happened with the Chicago Bulls since I started this blog, so this'll be a long blog. The first thing I want to talk about is injuries. The Bulls have had so many injuries in the past week that at this point they don't really have a bench or a starting lineup. Jimmy Butler, the Bulls' starting small forward who is the leader of their team and leading scorer every single game, got injured a few games ago. He has a bruised right heel and has missed the last three game because of it. Fortunately, he is slated to return tonight for their game against the Phoenix Suns. Dwyane Wade sat out during the game against the Warriors with a "respiratory illness", while bench players, Isiah Canaan, Paul Zipser and Cristinao Felicio are injured as well. Without his scoring and explosive offense, incredible defense of top players and energy, it is very difficult for them to win games. There are all these trade rumors swirling around regarding Butler and personally I think these rumors need to be put to rest. Unless the Bulls' front office wants a complete rebuild of the team, he is not going anywhere for a long time. Since they ruled this out after draft night this year, they will make no trades involving him. Jimmy Butler is the new face of the team and the best player on their team (no argument there), so it would be a horrible move to get rid of him. Considering this, it's not a shock that the Bulls have lost 2 of their last 3 games without him.
In the game against the Houston Rockets earlier this week, the Bulls put up a good fight without their star player. The young players really stepped up in his absence. However, without Butler, they couldn't finish the game and pull out a win. The Rockets are a great, hot western conference team currently and to lose in overtime against them is not a bad loss at all. Michael Carter-Williams in particular has stepped up in the last few games, scoring over 20 points. He needs to be one of the first players off the bench or a starter.
Knowing their coach, Fred Hoiberg, he'll be at the end of the bench again. Hoiberg constantly switches their lineups around every single game, which doesn't allow them to become consistent. When a player plays exceptionally well, they end up starting and then at the end of the bench during the next game. This is very strange and I think he needs to be fired at the end of the season. He doesn't play certain players for some reason, he doesn't know how to incorporate his offense in the games of this roster and he can't control his players. Hopefully, he will be fired at the end season, but this is unlikely as the Bulls' front office loves him. He also may be contributing to the Bulls many losses as well.
The Bulls are currently seventh in the eastern conference, which isn't terrible, but with stars Butler and Wade and a bench of high first round draft picks, they should be higher up in the standings. They can't get a wining streak larger than three games going, so that's why they may not make the playoffs.
Some games they play exceptionally well, while others are ugly losses. Speaking of ugly losses, the Bulls played the Warriors a couple of nights ago. Let's just say, it wasn't pretty. Without their two star players (Butler and Wade), the Golden State Warriors (The best team in the NBA) completely sweeped the Bulls 123-93. With all of their injuries the Bulls don't have a chance against any team, much less Golden State.

The Bulls are playing the Phoenix Suns tonight (the fifth game of their road trip), so if Butler returns tonight they can hopefully start a new winning streak.
